The Importance of Branding and Packaging

Producing your own product is the first step for many entrepreneurs. However, to be a successful businessman, you need to strategize in your branding, packaging and delivery. Your product needs to be appealing to the targeted customers.

The Agriculture and Local Produce Ministry is aware of the difficulties faced by many of our local entrepreneurs. Together with Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM) Negeri Sabah, they organised a 4-day seminar covering a variety of topics from budget planning to retail sales.

We are very thankful to the ministry for inviting us to share our experience in SSO supply chain services to the participants.

Visiting Mak Anna’s Sambal Factory

This morning, our Borneo Kaki team visited Mak Anna’s factory in Kg. Dalit, Tuaran.

Mak Anna is the brand name of Puan Deliam Binti Hj Zainuddin, producing various types of sauces and sambal. Puan Deliam is a Muslim Bajau, born in Kota Belud.

Humble Beginnings

Prior to the sambal and sauce business, Puan Deliam used to sell vegetables in local markets for almost 20 years. She got the inspiration from one of her customers who suggested her to use her chili to produce chili sauce to increase her revenue. There is no looking back since.

She initially began her operations in her own kitchen in 2010. After receiving good response from her customers, she registered her own company and began proper production in a premise near Kg Tebobon Menggatal.

She took a giant leap of faith in February 2014, when she took a loan from the bank and shifted her operations to the current factory in Kg. Dalit, Jalan Pantai, Tuaran. The new factory is equipped with modern boilers, mixers and packaging machines. This also enables her to apply for MeSTI certification.

Entrepreneur Spirit

Puan Deliam shared her success stories and struggles through the years. She is very glad that her children are very supportive of her business and are willing to sacrifice their time to help her.

“Cabaran kasi hantam saja!”

According to Puan Deliam, one has to be very hardworking to be a successful entrepreneur. There will be lots of challenges along the way and the person has to be persistent and not to give up easily. “Cabaran kasi hantam saja!” she exclaimed.

She has great plans for her company. Other than increasing her production capacity, she will be building a row of shops in front of her factory, which consist of a restaurant and her own sales outlet.

Product Sales

Currently, you can purchase Mak Anna’s products in most of the supermarket chains. In the near future, Puan Deliam will also be venturing into online sales to capture the local and tourist markets. She is proud to be a member of the Shared Services Outsourcing (SSO) scheme, which assisted her to diversify her sales channels.
